It’s just days after the United States’ Landon Donovan scored his thrilling late-game goal in the team’s 1-0 World Cup victory over Algeria, marking what could arguably be a turning point for U.S. soccer.
Watching the reactions from people across the country, commenting about it on Twitter, and on Facebook, there’s no question that many in America have suddenly become interested and are watching to see just how far its team can go.
With a favorable draw, the U.S. has a strong opportunity to advance to the semifinals, which would match their farthest run since 1930. And the national television audience could top the 13.7 million who in 1994 watched the U.S. lose to Brazil.
Now, we need your help. We’re going to try to gather images and videos of you, you and your friends and others watching the game in Denver and Colorado, beginning when the game is televised at 12:30 p.m. MT on ABC. We want to see where you’re celebrating, who you’re celebrating with, how you’re celebrating and images of you reacting to the game’s most important moments. We’ll take what’s submitted, mash it together, and post photo galleries — and, we hope — a video compilation of soccer fans in Colorado celebrating and following the game. Be sure to tell us where you are. You can submit entries to dpo@denverpost.com.
If you do submit work to us, you retain the full rights to copyright to the photo and video. By sending us your work, you’re giving The Denver Post a limited license to reproduce your picture and confirming that the photos or video is original, isn’t plaigarized, doesn’t infringe on someone’s copyright or trademark, doesn’t violate someone’s rights and isn’t unlawful in some way. (The above language is adapted from The New York Times, which led a similar project in May.)
